Ministerial Statement
The Ministry for Culture and Heritage provides the government with advice and support covering three ministerial portfolios: Arts, Culture and Heritage; Broadcasting; and Sport and Recreation.
This administration has made a series of decisions that have had the effect of considerably increasing the degree of involvement that central government has with the cultural sector.
We see a range of positive outcomes arising from this involvement. Some of these are to do with the intrinsic value of culture. But recognising and cultivating our diverse culture and heritage also helps to build strong communities, enhances our international profile as a unique, dynamic and creative country, and brings economic benefits.
This Statement of Intent outlines expectations of the Ministry over the next five years. It establishes the overall direction that the Ministry will take, and sets out key strategies it will adopt in order to achieve the government's priorities. The information contained in this document is consistent with the policies and performance expectations of the government.
I am confident that the work outlined in this document by the Ministry will support the government most effectively in its management of its broad cultural interests.
