Guidelines for employing cultural sector workers from overseas

The New Zealand Immigration Service (NZIS) operates a Work Visa and Permit policy. Within this policy there are three streams. The stream most relevant to the cultural sector in New Zealand is the Skilled Stream work to residence policy. Successful applicants under this policy will be issued with a multiple work visa allowing the grant of a permit for 30 months.

Research

Cultural Tourism Research

Cultural activities, experiences and products contribute significantly to the overall satisfaction of both international and domestic tourists in New Zealand. The Ministry for Culture and Heritage believes that cultural organisations and businesses could benefit greatly from a more strategic engagement with the tourism market and is interested in actively encouraging the development of strong and enduring relationships with the tourism sector.  The following two reports form the basis for the development of a Cultural Tourism Strategy to be released for consultation later in 2008.

Demand for Cultural Tourism, 2003 - Tourism New Zealand website

Tourism New Zealand, on behalf of an inter-government cultural working group, commissioned a research programme to gain a better understanding of the current demand for cultural tourism products and to identify any gaps in supply that may exist. The research consisted of both qualitative and quantitative research among domestic visitors, international visitors to New Zealand and potential international visitors to New Zealand. A document providing a summary of the findings of this research can be found on the Tourism New Zealand website .


 
 
 
Sponsorship of Cultural Events, Organisations, and Activities, 2005

Every two years, the Ministry undertakes a survey of cultural sponsorship. In November 2005 the Ministry for Culture and Heritage approached approximately 100 corporate sponsors and 40 cultural organisations to participate. The research sought information on the types of activities that were supported, the levels of sponsorship support in the past and for the future, what drives sponsorship decisions and to what degree they expect to provide, or seek, sponsorship in the future.

How important is culture? New Zealanders have their say, (1997)

This report contains the key findings of an attitudinal survey carried out in 1994 and again in 1997. The objectives of the survey were to identify how the public defines New Zealand's culture, to measure the value New Zealanders place on culture, to gauge levels of interest in culture and cultural activities and to measure perceived and preferred levels of media coverage of cultural activities compared with sport, business and gardening.
