The Penguin Book of New Zealanders at War
From the internal wars of the nineteenth century through the world wars to the Cold War, New Zealanders have fought under a wide range of conditions. In the bush of the North Island, the deserts of the Middle East, and the mud of Europe, they have faced death, felt pain, confronted the enemy and taken lives.
What was it like? How did they feel about it? This large anthology will draw on letters, diaries, log books, oral recordings and published classics to present a compelling picture of how New Zealanders experienced combat in the air, at sea and on land.
Historians Ian McGibbon and Gavin McLean are co-editing this book, which will be published in 2009.
