The Ministry for Culture and Heritage’s overall role is to help make New Zealand culture visible and accessible.
It is responsible for giving the government advice on cultural matters. It provides and manages cultural resources on behalf of government for the benefit of all New Zealanders; funding a range of cultural organisations and directly delivering a number of quality cultural experiences to New Zealanders.

Ministry for Culture and Heritage on sentencing
The Chief Executive of the Ministry for Culture and Heritage, Lewis Holden acknowledged today the sentence imposed on TV3 for its breach of the Broadcasting Act restrictions on Sunday morning advertising.

Executive Director – Digital Switchover Steering Group
On behalf of the Digital Switchover Steering Group, the Ministry for Culture and Heritage welcomes proposals in respect of the selection of an Executive Director to manage the Digital Switchover project for 24 hours per week for a 12 month term. The closing date for proposals is 6 July 2009.

Review of the New Zealand Film Commission
Government has announced a review of the New Zealand Film Commission to be led by New Zealand film-maker, Peter Jackson. David Court, Head of Screen Business at the Australian Film, Television & Radio School will be working with Peter as part of the review team.

Research on New Zealanders’ use of broadcasting and related media
How are New Zealanders using broadcasting media? Is TV really dying? Are New Zealanders using the internet more for information and music? Research commissioned by the Ministry for Culture and Heritage and Te Puni Kōkiri looks at New Zealanders’ use of traditional media (such as television and radio) and new media (such as the internet, portable music devices, and cell phones).

Government concludes broadcasting regulatory review
Government has announced that the previous government’s regulatory review of digital broadcasting will not proceed further. Instead government will be focussing on its objectives for broadcasting as outlined in its pre-election priorities.
