It is responsible for giving the government advice on cultural matters. It provides and manages cultural resources on behalf of government for the benefit of all New Zealanders; funding a range of cultural organisations and directly delivering a number of quality cultural experiences to New Zealanders.

Home - by Alison Parr
The Ministry's latest publication about civilian New Zealanders memories of the second World War - 'Home' was launched at Parliament by the Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage on 3 June 2010.

Author Alison Parr and the Minister were joined by contributors to the book, and friends and whanau to celebrate its launch. 'Home' is published by Penguin and available from all major booksellers.

Objects and Collections of National Importance: Your Collections, Your Views

What are objects of national importance? Who holds them? What are the legal, ethical, practical obligations for museums, galleries and collectors holding these objects?

The Ministry for Culture and Heritage is researching issues around objects and collections of national importance in order to provide relevant advice to the government. The Ministry would like your input into their thinking and decision making around protecting objects of significance to New Zealand's cultural heritage.
